Female Trouble

Female Trouble

John Waters, 1976, US, 89mins. Cert. 18

The incomparable Divine stars in what is surely the best Christmas film ever made.

When juvenile delinquent Dawn Davenport (Divine) doesn’t get the Cha Cha heels she wants for Christmas she runs away, gets pregnant and, finally, finds the fame she has always desperately wanted. By going on a murderous rampage.

Directed by John “pope of trash” Waters and starring Mink Stole, David Lochary and Edith Massey, this camp critique of celebrity culture is the Dreamlanders at their best. There’s no better way to begin the festive season.

Just in case you’re still not convinced, there’ll also be free mince pies, festive treats and our friends at the Golden Lion have promised to get that mulled wine brewing
