At the end of February, Rachel D’Cruze, Sydenham Arts’ brilliant Managing Director, departed the organisation. She oversaw the Film Club’s progression under the Sydenham Arts’ umbrella, welcoming us, taking care of us every step of the way to our monthly screenings, and helping us feel at home among the charity’s courteous Trustees and wonderful Volunteers. We already miss her, but we wish her all the best as she moves on to a new chapter of her life.

As we have said in the past though, every end is a new beginning, and every new beginning is a good beginning. So, it is our turn to welcome James Hodgson, who on Monday 17 February picked up the baton from Rachel as Sydenham Arts’ Managing Director. Together, we made a great start with our February, vibrant screening of “Amelie”, preceded by the heartwarming short “Flowers” and a Q&A with its director Sabina Sattar.

James is a Visual Artist in his own right and a theatre-making professional who graduated from the prestigious Rose Bruford College with First Class Honours, with an impressive portfolio of experience, and a level of vision, determination and energy, which inspire confidence and enthusiasm.

In his own words: “I’m delighted and humbled to be chosen to lead Sydenham Arts going forward and continue the wonderful work it does in bringing arts of excellence to Sydenham, incubating talent, and celebrating this vibrant community. I look forward to the year ahead and working together with local people to deliver exciting programmes, projects and art.”

Hear, hear!
